About Michelle Bonanno

Michelle Bonanno is a senior lecturer in the Writing Program at Fort Lewis College, where she has been teaching since 2005. A first-generation college student, Michelle earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in communications from FLC in 2001. She then completed a Master of Arts in Communication at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 2004.

During her graduate studies, Michelle developed a strong interest in the rhetorical power of mass media. Her master’s thesis explored the role of local newspapers in healing the Littleton, Colorado community following the 1999 Columbine High School shooting.

As a student at FLC, Michelle met her future husband, Anthony. Together, they are raising their two children, AJ and Mia. As a family, they enjoy camping in San Diego, boating at Lake Powell, and cross-country skiing at Vallecito. In addition to her teaching, Michelle also helps oversee the Academic Hub and First-Year Experience, supporting new students as they begin their college path.
