Canvas LMS

Fundamentals of Accessible Digital Content in Canvas by Instructure - This free, on-demand course takes about one hour to complete. The course can be accessed directly in Canvas. Follow these steps: 

  1. In the left navbar, click the Help icon
  2. Choose the Training Services Portal from the list and follow the prompts to login
  3. Type "Accessible" into the search bar. 
  4. Click "Enroll Now" on the course.

Digital accessibility

-  This website contains a library of digital accessibility training videos. Subjects include: 

  • How to make an Accessible Document in Microsoft Word
  • How to Test and Remediate PDFs for Accessibility Using Adobe Acrobat DC
  • How to Author and Test Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations for Accessibility 
  • And many more...

 – This comprehensive training includes modules on creating accessible content such as documents, webpages, emails, and video.

Software tools

  • Acrobat accessibility checker – This checker is included in Adobe Acrobat Pro. It will help remediate some, but not all, issues. 
  • MS Office – Most MS Office products have an accessibility checker built-in. (Note: If you are using a Mac and exporting the docs as PDFs, a lot of the accessibility settings within the document may be lost.) 
  • CommonLook – This software will check and fix MS Word and PDF docs. We have a few licenses available.
  • Google Lens - Google Lens trick for OCR.
    • Open an image or PDF in the Google Chrome browser.
    • Click on the three dots on the upper right corner of the browser.
    • Choose “Search with Google Lens”.
    • Highlight the text you want to convert.
    • Copy and paste the text into a text editor.
