Your FYL course will help you connect to your new home at FLC and successfully navigate your first year of college. There are many topics to choose from because our faculty and staff have designed these half-semester, one-credit courses around topics they're interested in and passionate about. They can't wait to share their knowledge and excitement with you!

If your parents didn't get a college degree, congratulations, you're a first-generation college student! This course will discuss impostor syndrome, the unique vocabulary of college, juggling family/job/classroom expectations, getting familiar with the college culture, and being "the first!"

The FLC Concert Band is open to any student with wind, percussion, or bass instrument experience who wants to continue making music in college! First-year students are part of the regular ensemble, performing with a community of passionate music makers. You must be able to read music to be successful.

The FLC Concert Choir is open to all students regardless of singing background. First-year students are part of the regular ensemble, performing with a community of passionate music makers. A short placement audition is required so that students can sing in the correct section.

The FLC Orchestra is open to any student with string experience (violin, viola, cello, bass) who wants to continue making music in college! First-year students are part of the regular ensemble, performing with a community of passionate music makers. You must be able to read music to be successful.

Our lives are more meaningful when we find ways to serve others. Students will plan, engage in, and reflect on community service projects in this course. Scaffolding and support will be provided to help students find ways to serve their communities that align with their own values and interests.
This course supports Indigenous first-year students in navigating college while strengthening cultural identity and community. Through storytelling, mentorship, and reflective projects, students will explore their purpose for attending college, develop academic skills, and connect their strengths to success. Together, we build a foundation for thriving as Indigenous scholars.

This course introduces students to the Reed Honors Program, the Fort Lewis College campus, and the 91桃色 community. Using student-driven inquiry as the basis for learning, it addresses the concepts of community and community engagement, introduces students to strategies for exploring their communities, and leads them to identify areas of further inquiry. This course gives credit for FLC 100, a college-wide first-year requirement.
