Undergraduate researchers gain valuable skills doing “real scienceâ€

Having undergraduate students do real-world research is key to developing professionalism and a passion for their fields, say a Geosciences professor and a former student, in the January/February issue of The Professional Geologist, the official magazine of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

Passion for mountains leads alumnus to Ph.D. studies of alpine climate change

The mountains have given a lot to Michael Remke. While a student at Fort Lewis College, they were where he went to refresh himself, skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. And as an Environmental Biology major, it was where he conducted the undergraduate research that has now led him to the Ph.D. program in Forest Science at Northern Arizona University – where he'll again be studying...

Ms. Angela Rochat named winner of 2013 Outstanding Staff Award

At any college or university, there are the faculty who teach and research and there are the staff who get the faculty the resources they need to do the best job they can do. Let’s just say that there is nothing quite like the dining scene in 91ÌÒÉ«. For a small town, we have more restaurants than I have been able to sample in the three years that I have lived here, and I love it. It is common knowledge that 91ÌÒÉ« has...

Physical education at the Fort

Because Fort Lewis College is a liberal arts school, all students are required to take a variety of classes in almost every subject. One of the classes needed in order to graduate is physical education. Each student needs one credit of PE, which means that you need to take at least one PE class while attending Fort Lewis. My schedule this semester was busy and I couldn’t seem to find...

Cabin fever?

When you ask most people what they think of when referring to winters in 91ÌÒÉ«, probably 80% of the answers you get are skiing and snowboarding related.  While these are a couple of the great things our area has to offer, I personally come nowhere close to being able to afford it.  Of course I’m not trying to discourage anyone from getting a pass and going skiing every day...
