Barb Rosten is completing her 30th year at Fort Lewis College. Barb has dedicated her career serving students, faculty, and staff. Her compassion and dedication to customer service is reflected in her correspondence with students and families every day. Barb is a second Mom to our professional team but also to the RAs and desk assistants. The students ask for advice, resources in 91ÌÒÉ«, or just reach out because she is a great listener. Barb has been the institutional support and cheerleader for our team. We will miss her prompt responses and very kind heart!
Charles Hoover ended the month of May with two legacy programs, helped close out 7 buildings, and took 5 CLSA students to NACURH. Charles and his team worked with SUP on SkyFest. Charles and his team finished the year with strong participation numbers and outstanding programs. Charles' commitment to high student satisfaction will be missed. He built a fantastic team of student leaders. CLSA is back!
On May 1st, a student arrived at the Testing Center to complete two make-up exams for MK 385, only to encounter an unexpected technical failure with Lockdown Browser through Canvas. Despite the disruption, Dea Autrey, Testing Center Coordinator, demonstrated outstanding professionalism and composure by seamlessly coordinating with both faculty and IT staff to find workable solutions, including pivoting to a paper-format exam while a technical resolution was pursued. Most notably, she kept the student calm and reassured throughout the entire ordeal, ensuring a stressful situation remained as smooth as possible. Dea's dedication, quick thinking, and collaborative spirit on May 1st exemplify the kind of service that deserves formal recognition.
Gracen Key, Coach, got a call from one of our community members on how well they were driving on behalf of FLC. Anytime we get a call on our hotline from a community member in 91ÌÒÉ« about the great work we do at FLC, EHS is proud to support recognition. Well done Gracen and thanks so much for being an outstanding role model.
Greg and Mick really helped us out here. They made time to haul things around and help finish up a challenging task.
Jaden Luna, Resident Director of Housing, has created meaningful opportunities for student connection through their innovative Car Club and Coffee gatherings. By designing programs that extend beyond traditional campus social offerings, they’ve successfully reached students who may not typically engage in organized activities. Their efforts foster a welcoming, low-pressure environment where students can build community, share interests, and feel a stronger sense of belonging on campus.
Jaxsen Davis took on new job responsibilities right at the beginning of the Housing assignment process. Jaxsen had a pretty steep learning curve to learn the software and how the process worked. Jaxsen's drive, commitment, and determination was instrumental to the success of our assignment process. We are extremely fortunate to have Jaxsen in this role.
I am so grateful to Jen Rider these past few weeks! When tasked with a project that was out of my comfort zone, Jen selflessly took time out of her day (more than once!) to walk me through systems I wasn't very comfortable with. She was incredibly clear, kind, and informative each time that I met with her, and helped get the creative juices flowing. As an awesome and unexpected result, Skyhawk Station now has access to an amazing L&D tool. Jen has exemplified teamwork and then some!
John Yezbak has worked very hard over the last two months to continue to build an RA training program for the fall that not only prepares them for the role, but includes professional development for their career once they leave Fort Lewis.
Leah Dworkin has made a meaningful impact in family housing by fostering a strong sense of community through holistic, inclusive programming designed for the whole family. Her approach recognizes the diverse needs of residents, creating opportunities for connection, support, and engagement across all ages.
Lily Ballengee has made an outstanding contribution to Student Housing through her leadership and dedication in developing our Resident Assistant classes and pre-training program. Her thoughtful planning, creativity, and commitment to excellence have helped create engaging and impactful learning experiences that prepare Resident Assistants for success.
Cross Country coaches (Dalton Graham, Josh Drew, Gracen Key) are leading the way when it comes to safe and excellent driving behavior with our fleet. When our community in 91ÌÒÉ« sees Fort Lewis driving well, it reflects the strength of our team. I am proud to support the recognition of good driving habits and strong community interaction. Keep up the great work!
Mick and Greg really helped out the CATS team today. They made time for us to haul stuff around and help us finish up with a couple challenging tasks.
The Student Well-Being Department is doing a deep dive into its data sets to inform and guide the FLC strategic plan. Nicole Guthrie spent hours working with me to transform the data into a manageable set. We are so appreciative of this contribution!
Paulinda Yazzie patiently and kindly helped me correct some difficult payroll errors related to complicated grant-funded projects. She brought enormous thoughtfulness, professionalism, and compassion to a challenging situation. Thank you for your help and partnership, Paulinda!
